Life, Love, & other Mysteries
Today was a good day. No. Today was a great day. I turned 39 years old today. :)
Most women are sensitive about their age. I used to be that way, until I realized what a blessing it is to live another year, surrounded by people I love, doing things I love, learning new things, and experiencing new things. I'm grateful for all the people in my life who made it such a special day for me today: my work friends, my husband, my dad, my sister, and all my friends.
I'm grateful for my work friends who took me out to lunch:
Thank you Sandra, Dawn, Yuri, Aracelli, Joanne, and Swati. Thank you for the thoughfulness. I'm grateful that I have a job and a pleasant work place to go to, and awesome people to work with. SO grateful.
I'm grateful for my husband who took me out to dinner at Cafe Japengo, where I had some awesome curry noodles with shrimp & scallops:
Where Todd had some fried tofu:
And where we ate some awesome desserts of tempura banana with vanilla gelato,
and fried bread pudding with pears and coconut gelato:
I'm grateful for my sweet husband who knows me so well:
Todd knows how much I love sock monkeys. I named him "Salvador" the Sock Monkey. :)
AND Todd knew that I wished I had an external hard drive to scrap between my desktop and my laptop, so he got me a 500GB cute little red one. But most of all I'm grateful for the years of memories that we've shared, and how much of "us" there is in our everyday life.
I'm grateful for the card that my dad sent me. He called me on Monday to tell me that he's sending me a card, LOL. The reason this is a huge deal is because this is the FIRST time in my life that my dad has sent me a birthday card by himself. My mom had always taken care of it before. He never had to remember when my birthday is. This is a huge effort for him and I'm blown away. And I'm touched by what he wrote: "You and Todd are wonderful blessing to our family. I am grateful whenever I think of you. Daddy." Two simple sentences never seemed so precious.
I'm grateful that my sister sent me a card and told me how thankful she is to have me as a sister. I guess she forgot how I used to kick her (literally) and pull her hair. :p
I'm touched by all the emails and Facebook birthday greetings from my friends. I was overwhelmed by the thoughtful words.
Most of all, I'm grateful for a heavenly Father who knows how many hairs there are on my head, who loves me and cares for me deeply. He has knowledge and wisdom regarding life, love, and other mysteries that are sometimes incomprehensible to us. I'll leave you with a song on an old Point of Grace CD that I found in my car today:
Because when it seems that my heart is surrounded
When all of our questions of life have been sounded
I rest in the hope where my faith has been grounded
I do not fear the unknown, ’cause
You are lord of life, love and other mysteries
You know my future, you know my history
I find in you all I ever need to know
About life and love and other mysteries

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! What a fabulous celebration! The card from your Dad was especially sweet. I spent my 39th year pouting..waste of time. 40 hasn't been bad at all, kinda freeing (if that makes any sense!) Besides, you are only as old as you act...have a great birthday week!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!! I love sock monkey's too, and an EHD is like the best present in the world!! LOL!! And I LOVE that song! I saw my CD maybe a month ago when I was cleaning out my closet. I'll have to dig it out again and put it on my ipod!!
