2009 Year-In-Review

In the tradition of last year's 2008 Year-In-Review post, here is one for this year.  This post took a lot longer to complete than I thought.

2009 Retrospective

January:

• 1/1:  Spent New Year's Day with AJ and Meera.
  
• 1/2:  Decided to do Project 365
• 1/4:  An everyday moment made me grief for my mom.
• 1/5:  Buckeyes lost in the Fiesta Bowl.
• 1/10:  We joined West Coast Road Runners
• 1/11:  Hung out with Sally:  went to Balboa Park and made homemade all-natural soap, of which Todd is still using the last few bars.
• 1/16:  Hot chocolate date with Todd
• 1/18:  Wore our funny t-shirts in La Jolla and had delicious hamburgers at Burger Lounge.
• 1/25:  Spent Chinese New Year's Eve with dad and Shelly
• 1/30:  Todd played a gig with Kim Divine at Lestat's.
• 1/31:  Gorgeous day for a run and fun with Sally.

February:

• 2/1:  made homemade tacos and watched Super Bowl at home.
• 2/5:  Todd's birthday dinner at Piatti with AJ & Meera.
• 2/7:  Todd's friend Joe came for a visit.
• 2/8:  I ran with my new Garmin GPS watch for the first time.
• 2/13:  my prizes came for being runner-up for Wacom's Penscrappers Contest.
• 2/14:  second anniversary of my mom's passing.
• 2/17:  Todd's work friend Chris died in a car crash over the weekend.
• 2/22:  went to the Amgen Tour of Calif bike race with Anne and Gilbert.
• 2/24:  finalized remodel plans and paid deposit on it
• 2/25:  mushy list of reasons why I love and respect Todd so much
• 2/28:  gorgeous 10-mile run in La Jolla.

March:

• 3/1:  another gig with Kim Divine at Lestat's - went with Anne and Gilbert
• 3/7:  scenic 8 mile trail run at Lake Hodges
• 3/8:  our next door neighbor Fred's awesome 60th birthday party
• 3/11:  my awesome birthday
• 3/12:  my very first hula dance lesson
• 3/14:  12 mile run on the coast
• 3/14 and 3/15:  went up to LA to see Dad and Shelly; dinner with Fred and Annie, and why we didn't try out for The Amazing Race.
• 3/18:  Sally took me to dinner @ Urban Solace for my birthday
• 3/20:  end of Battlestar Galactica
• 3/21:  a sandy 14-mile run + went to Beach City Cafe afterwards
• 3/22:  girls get-together with Sally and Lara at Pacific Beach
• 3/27:  I went to urgent care for injuring my right shoulder & upper back
• 3/28:  gorgeous, fantastic, sunny, touristy day in La Jolla 

April:

• 4/1:  my friend Barbara died of cancer at the age of 33.
• 4/4:  gorgeous 8-mile run in Encinitas, plus got together with Lara and Sara.  Haven't seen Sara in 20 years!
• 4/5:  awesome lunch with Fred and Annie next door, as well as Yvonne and Andy.
• 4/7:  my friend Barbara's memorial service.
• 4/8:  kitchen demolition and official start of our remodel
• 4/9:  master bath demolition
• 4/11:  Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W Smith concert @ Long Beach.
• 4/16:  picked out tiles with Kim and hung out with Jennifer and Shawn.
• 4/18:  cooked dinner @ Anne and Gilbert's house
• 4/19:  picked strawberries with Dela Cruzes.
• 4/25:  NFL Draft Party @ AJ and Meera's house.
• 4/27:  dinner @ Lara and Rupert's house, and why I love scrapbooking.
• 4/28:  Todd's dad came to practice trumpet with Todd for Uncle Marshall's funeral.

May:

• 5/2:  adventures in downtown San Diego with Sally
• 5/3:  Todd came home from attending Uncle Marshall's memorial service in Reno.
• 5/9:  they delivered the new kitchen cabinets; we found out Beach City Cafe closed.
• 5/10:  had dinner @ Sally and Brian's house; my 3rd Mother's Day without my mom.
• 5/13:  templating the kitchen counter.
• 5/16:  ran 10 miles and went to my friend Daryl's housewarming party.
• 5/20:  took Sally out for birthday dinner @ Busalacchis
• 5/22:  went to No Doubt concert with Erecca
• 5/24:  watched Cleveland Cavaliers vs Orlando Magic NBA Eastern Conf Finals Game 3 with AJ and Meera at their house.

June:

•  6/4:  the first post by Todd, which eventually became a weekly occurrence in 2009 called "Tuesdays with Todd".
• 6/5:  our master bath remodel reached the milestone of the whole shower being tiled.
• 6/6:  ran with my WCRR friends Cathy and Caryn, plus AJ and Meera came over to see the new kitchen and bath tiling.
• 6/13:  ran with WCRR at La Jolla on the beach, where I found some star fish!
• 6/14:  Taste of Gaslamp with Sally and Brian
• 6/21:  cooked the first meals in our newly remodeled kitchen!
• 6/25:  we celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at the Space Needle in Seattle.
• 6/26:  fun day in Seattle, including a visit to an awesome bookstore.
• 6/27:  I ran the Rock N Roll Seattle Half Marathon!

July:

• 7/3:  lots of house work plus we hung out with our neighbors and played in a jam band.
• 7/5:  went to the Padres vs. Dodgers game at Petco Park downtown and enjoyed the "5 For 5".
• 7/7:  went to Burger Lounge, where I took the best photo of a burger EVER, and enjoyed the La Jolla sunset. 
• 7/8:  brought food to eat with Mike and the kids.
• 7/9:  Kitchen remodel officially completed!
• 7/11:  cooked dinner for friends for the first time after the kitchen remodel.
• 7/14:  nacho night at the Newman household.
• 7/18:  nice run at Mission Bay, followed by Swedish meatballs @ IKEA.
• 7/22:  Peppermint and Tom arrived in San Diego and went to In-N-Out Burger.
• 7/23:  Legoland with Peppermint and Tom.
• 7/24:  Comic-Con with Peppermint and Tom.
• 7/25:  Burger Lounge, La Jolla, and Coronado Island with Peppermint and Tom.
• 7/26:  Peppermint and Tom leave, but not before experiencing Cabrillo National Monument and eating at Point Loma Seafood.
• 7/27:  dad came to visit us and saw the new kitchen for the first time.
  
• 7/30:  fantastic boogie-boarding fun with Sally @ La Jolla Shores!

August:

• 8/3:  master bath remodel before and after.
• 8/5:  a nice weeknight jaunt to Pizzeria Luigi and Eclipse Chocolat.
• 8/8:  six mile run in La Jolla with fantastic views, followed by dinner with Anne and Gilbert.
• 8/9:  Girls Day Out at Coronado Island with Sally and Lara.
• 8/10:  lunch with Meera @ Red Robin.
• 8/12:  boogie boarding with Sally @ La Jolla Shores, part deux.
• 8/15:  I discovered "chi running" and we had dinner with Ashley and Andrew.
• 8/18:  "Tuesdays with Todd" from San Mateo.
• 8/19:  lunch with Meera @ Soban.
• 8/21:  made a layout celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary.
• 8/23:  yummy homemade tacos!
• 8/25:  Todd went sailing with his company.
• 8/28:  we had a San Diego staycation day, where we ate @ Point Loma Seafood, went to Old Town, and dinner in the Gaslamp.
• 8/29:  went to visit dad 
• 8/31:  Todd passed the Salesforce.com certification.

September

• 9/4:  Todd went to the Chargers vs 49ers preseason game with AJ.
• 9/6:  AJ and Meera renewed their vows for their 10-year anniversary celebration.
• 9/7:  lunch at Torrey Pines Glider Port.
• 9/12:  Newman Clubhouse Grand Re-Opening Party, followed by Buckeye football party.
• 9/14:  I commemorated what would have been my mom's 66th birthday by going to my doctor for my annual checkup.
• 9/16:  dinner @ Sea Rocket with Sally.
• 9/19:  dinner @ Point Loma Seafood and Sunset Cliffs.
• 9/20:  a visit to the original Pizzeria Luigi.
• 9/27:  a date on Coronado Island with Burger Lounge and Moo Time.

October:

• 10/3:  Ingrid Michaelson concert @ Bernardo Winery.
• 10/8:  dinner @ Fish House Veracruz with AJ, Meera, and Andon.
• 10/10:  origin story of "Savaje the Popcorn Eater".
• 10/11:  Jason Mraz concert with Sally and Tyler.
• 10/15-10/18:  visit Todd's family in Ohio, where the fall colors were gorgeous, the Buckeyes lost to Purdue, and we walked in the woods and found lots of fallen leaves.
• 10/30:  the Cat in the Hat did not win the Chili Cookoff!
• 10/31:  the Banana and Cat in the Hat went to neighbor Tyler's Halloween party.

November:

• 11/1:  my store, Listgirl Designs, officially opened!
• 11/2:  Todd went to lunch with "Sweater World of Peter" club.
• 11/5:  I made a bunch of greeting cards for "Scrappers Give Thanks", using my Silhouette digital craft cutter.
• 11/7:  fun day of supporting WCRR, Mike's birthday party, and dinner with Daryl and Julie.
• 11/8:  watched Chargers vs. Giants game at AJ and Meera's house.
• 11/13:  Soup Nite @ Lara and Rupert's house.
• 11/14:  Anne and Gilbert came over for lunch, and to witness the Buckeyes beat the Iowa Hawkeyes for the Big Ten championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl on 1/1.
• 11/19:  I drove, took a plane trip, and two train rides to spend a weekend in San Francisco with Todd.
• 11/20:  dinner @ Kingfish Restaurant in San Mateo.
• 11/21:  visited baby Madison and Minnie and Mike and watched the Buckeyes beat Michigan at their house, then went to the Cal vs Stanford game at Stanford.
• 11/24:  Todd's account of Dreamforce in SF.
• 11/26:  Thanksgiving at  dad's house with dad and Shelly.
• 11/27:  Todd helped dad put together shelves; dad got a murse.
• 11/28:  our Christmas tree went up

December:

• 12/6:  went to watch Chargers vs. Browns at AJ and Meera's house.
• 12/8:  Todd finished up a series of technical speeches for Toastmasters.
• 12/12:  left for Kauai vacation
• 12/13:  first day in Kauai
• 12/14:  Waimea Canyon and JoJo's shave ice.
• 12/15:  water skiing and snorkeling
• 12/16:  drive north to Ke'e Beach
• 12/17:  more sightseeing
• 12/18:  chocolate farm tour
• 12/19:  delicious ahi poke and leaving Kauai
• 12/23:  I made some Santa treat bags and gift tags.
• 12/24:  dad and Shelly came for Christmas Eve.
• 12/25:  opening of gifts and 10th annual Christmas at the Beach.
• 12/26:  dad and Shelly left and we went to run five miles at Miramar Lake.
• 12/31:  Todd's parents visit; we open Christmas gifts, and New Year's Eve dinner.

Phew, 2009 was quite a year!  And because of Project 365, we get to re-live it whenever we want! :)
