So last year I took on Project 365 and took at least one photo a day, and blogged about it. My life was documented daily for an entire year. It was fantastic and I love having the documentation to look back on.
But one thing was missing in my life. I wasn't spending daily time with my Bible, God's Word.
If I can spend 30-45 minutes per day processing photos and blogging, surely I can find 15 minutes a day to spend with God's Word!
So, my new daily endeavor for 2010 is to read my Bible every day, and read through the whole Bible in one year. I've done this once before, in 1989, my first full year of college (and the year that I met Todd!). That experience left me with a lasting impression of the continuity of God's plan for salvation and grace for everyone, throughout not only the New Testament, but the Old Testament as well.
To help me with this new daily endeavor, and to utilize my Christmas gift from Todd, I am going to read my Bible every day on my Sony Reader.
I purchased the One Year Bible New Living Translation. I wanted an easy to read translation, and I wanted the process to be as easy as possible. This version has dates and the passages of the day right there, without having to turn to different parts of the Bible to read the passages. I'm all about making it easier to achieve goals! Since I didn't purchase this Bible for my Sony Reader until Monday night, I had to catch up and read the first six days. I'm all caught up now, and I'm looking forward to the next 359 days this year, spending 15 minutes a day in God's Word!
Be back tomorrow with the winner of the Digital Artist Magazine giveaway!
What a great way to reach this goal! I think I may start my 'read my Bible through the year' goal after I'm finished with my Beth Moore study.
ReplyDeleteAbout your Project 365..I am assuming that you will print the layouts. Are you making a bound book, or going with the loose pages? I think I'll get a book made. (never done that before) But, it will be awhile..still plugging along getting the pictures into layouts.
Happy Thursday. Have a good one!
Cool beans! Mr. Neal and I are doing the "read the bible in 90 days" program. We're using the Message translation, and we're reading it on our iPhones. Yep, there's an app for that!
ReplyDeleteI like the 90 day program because it gives you 5 days at the end of the month to catch up.
I'm enjoying the reading---never read the Bible the whole way through---and the time with Mr. Neal!
Tracey - I will get my P365 layouts into a bound book (probably Blurb or Inkubook)... I just need to finish all the layouts first, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteHeather - wow, a 90 day Bible reading program! So ambitious!
GREAT plan for 2010, Christine! I've been consistent about daily time for a couple of months now and it has changed me! Here's a great resource to check out (although you have a very good system!)... http://www.youversion.com/about/reading-plans/
ReplyDeleteChristine - that looks like a great resource, thanks for sharing it. I don't have a fancy phone. My phone is very rudimentary and old school, so I can't read my Bible on that. But I don't want a big bulky Bible, and I don't want to be tied to my computer, so the Sony Reader was the perfect solution for me. :)
ReplyDeleteGirl, I'm SO proud of you!! I've been wanting to email you back about this and to just encourage you to keep on looking to the Lord! I've been so blessed by spending time in the Word the last week or so. I'm making more time to spend with Him and it's making a HUGE difference! Our joy is in Him!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is so awesome! I've always wanted to read the bible but I always have lots of questions and no one to ask so I get discouraged. This is really amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! I've been looking into e-readers and never even thought about the Bible in a year for them. I just started reading my Bible for this year again, 2nd time through, and it is so good. Wish I would just do it every year.
ReplyDeletethat´s fantastic - I think I should do it, too maybe I´ll find something in German!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great goal for the year! After I'm done with school, it might be somethng I'll try. We read the whole Bible as a class n first grade, or anyway, studied the whole Bible on a 6-year-old level. (I went to Catholic school) I'll need something more porable too! I bought a gorgeous white padded-cover bible with gold-edged pages with my high-school graduation money. I wanted a book fitting of it's conents. As much as I enjoy reading in it from time-to-time in the evening, it's too much to carry with me! Maybe I should look into a reader too!
ReplyDeleteOooohhh, I am drooling over your new book reader. Doesn't your mind just boggle over the advances in technology that we enjoy? And what better use for it than to read the Bible (and in a year!)
ReplyDeleteWow, I have just found your blog and have downloaded several of your wonderful gifts and as I was looking for your e-mail to send you a gigantic thank you, I found this - that on top of your fabulous blog and wonderful gifts, you are a sister-in-Christ! I'm so happy! Reading this post is so special to me for where I'm at in my walk with the Lord. Encouraging. And by the way, I too have read the entire Word of God in a year in the past and it was truly a great experience.
ReplyDeleteI have a Christian outreach blog where I make and give daily digital scrapbooking freebies to get on the search engines to bring traffic hoping they will read my daily touches from God. I've been at it for almost 2 years. I do everything myself and by hand. It is extremely time consuming, but so important to spread His word of hope and love to a lost and dying world. I started gathering the freebies I've given into kits to try to sell to support the blog a while back and that is even more time and has met with little success.
I've been seeking the Father for a very long time about the balance between serving Him in this venue (the blog), my personal time with Him, and taking better care of my health (working too much on the blog). He has impressed on me that I too need much more time with Him than I've had since the blog. It takes soooooo much time, but I have such a burden for those who don't know Him yet and realize that any day I wouldn't post a message and a freebie, I'd miss the search engines and a lost soul wouldn't find their way to the blog where He could plant seeds of salvation. It's been difficult seeking balance. It's the age old dilemma of balance between serving Him and nurturing one's own relationship with Him - not to suffer spiritual loss through unbalanced efforts to serve Him and in essence, leaving your relationship.
I too realized that this year I must somehow change things. I need refilled. I'm so hungry for Him. I've put all but one kit that I'll be offering for sale up on the blog as of this morning and then I'm going to take a break with the Lover of my soul. It feels bad that today's the first day in almost two years that I don't have a special message from Him to the world on the blog, but I know He's calling me back to be with Him. It's really special that He's touched you to spend more time with Him too and more time in His word. I will be praying for both of us for the wisdom and discipline to make this happen.
