Will Run 13.1 Miles for a T-Shirt

Today was the kick off of the Spring season of West Coast Road Runners at Road Runner Sports.
We arrived around 7:30am and registered and got our goodie bags.  For the last several days, there had been rumors that for the first time in the 12 year history of the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon, there will be a Half Marathon as well.  I had gone to the official website and did not find the Half Marathon on the online entry form.  However, today there were representatives from the Rock N Roll San Diego Marathon there, and they confirmed that there will be a Half Marathon in June!  It was on their printed entry form already, but it won't be online until this coming Tuesday.  So exciting!  Last year we decided to run the inaugural Rock N Roll Seattle Half Marathon, because I didn't want to run a whole marathon in San Diego.  But as I stood there this morning, I couldn't make up my mind whether to sign up for not.  Until... I saw the free t-shirt special deal for TODAY only!

Todd and I both liked the retro style T-shirt so much that we both signed up to run the 13.1 mile race in June. So much for goal-less running, LOL! I guess we will be training for a half marathon now!

There were a ton of new people there today. Coach Dan did his "pep talk" about the training program.

Todd took a cool photo of the front of Road Runner Sports, busy with people, with reflections of palm trees on the side of the building.

After the orientation, we went out and ran our three mile time trial. Todd was faster than me (of course), so he took a photo of me after he turned around at the 1.5 mile mark.

Distance: 3.0 miles
Time: 31:48
Avg pace: 10:35/mile
Calories: 300

I was pretty excited that I beat my last year's time of 33:13. :)

After the run, we went home and showered.  Then we headed out to Burger Lounge in La Jolla for lunch, because we haven't been to a Burger Lounge in something like three months!

The weather was gorgeous today. A nice retro Rock N Roll San Diego Marathon t-shirt was perfect for mid-day! :p

We shared a burger, a salad, and french fries.

I took a short nap in the afternoon because I woke up at 5:30am this morning.
Then we took down our Christmas tree and all our garlands, wreaths, and decorations (finally!).
Then I did a scrapbook layout.  This is the first page I've done in close to a month!  I'll show you tomorrow.
We had some Chinese dumplings for dinner.  They were of the frozen variety.  We boiled them in water and dipped them in soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and hot chili paste.

I got a lot accomplished today but my to-do list for this weekend is long.

  1. I think I am a little jealous since your entry started out with "spring" training. I texted my brother that it was minus 20 yesterday morning on the way to swimming lessons. Still have to dig out our van from the big Christmas snow storm. Thanks for sharing your warmer memories with me. I've needed it lately!

  2. Love the t-shirts! They could almost make me sign up for a half-marathon too, but only almost. I'm so impressed of you guys that can run such distances!

The weather looks so nice on your pics. Here we had -18C (0F) yesterday and a warming -7C (20F) today. Brrr. I long for spring to show up here too! =)

Btw, I downloaded my copy of DAM today, with all the downloads. It worked perfectly. Your article was great, very well written and with a nice layout. Thanks again for inviting me to contribute!

  3. I knew your goal-less running didn't have a chance, especially against that T-shirt :-).

  4. Those shirts are adorable and so worth ditching the goal-less running for the event. If I lived there I would have pretended to be a runner just get one myself. LOL

I love how you can go running and then eat hamburgers for lunch. You rock!

I am jealous that you are out running around in such beautiful weather. The sun is out to day but there is still snow on the ground. Wanna trade?

  6. I think I'd consider running 13.1 miles for the fries and gigantor burger.

    And the salad...and the dumplings...

Can you tell that I'm back on my eating 'only enough calories to run my vital organs' meal plan??

If it wasn't so very cold, I would go running...really...OK, not really, but it sounds good.

  7. Hmmm...I think I'd run a 1/2 for that t-shirt! I think I'm going to be able to run this week! My back is finally feeling somewhat normal again. So ready to get moving again. Sigh.
And way to go on lowering your time!

  8. Guess what?! One of my 2010 goals (and I won't use the word "resolution") is to train my body to run. Once upon a time I loved to run and want to get back to that place. Reading your blog has planted that seed and it's been growing each time I read about you and Todd going on a run.

I'm so excited by the new year...new goals, new hopes & new experiences.

BTW: those t-shirts are great! And congrats on beatin last year's time!! :o)

  9. I found you through AKA Alice's blog... she mentioned you and me and WCRR. Turns out we're in the same running group! I was there on Saturday. I didn't run, though.

I'll be training in the North County Coastal area. Where are you training? Hopefully, I'll see you one of these weekends!
