Sacrificing for the Run

I seriously hate waking up before 6am, especially when I was woken up at 2am by yet another earthquake, an aftershock of the 7.2 from Sunday. This one was only 4.4 though... but it still woke me up and I couldn't fall back asleep right away. So when the alarm went off at 5:50am, I could not peel my eyes open. Argh, the sacrifices I make for running. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it.

We got up to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas around 6:45am to run with our running club. It was 8 miles for Todd's group and 7 miles for my group. We started at the same time. It was cloudy with marine layer when we started, and it stayed like that the whole time.

At the beginning of the run we had to go down a big hill.

Then immediately go up a big hill.

We ran north 3.5 miles from Moonlight Beach to Carlsbad, then turned around for the other 3.5 miles back. Along the way there was ocean view.

All the local training teams are out there today! Everyone is getting in gear for the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon and Half Marathon on June 6th. Todd and I are running the 1/2 marathon. I saw San Diego Track Club and Team In Training out there today.

I beat Todd back to Moonlight Beach by a couple of minutes, but he ran one more mile than me.

I felt pretty good. I ate a Luna bar on the way to the run. Then I had a 10oz bottle of Ultima and a 10oz bottle of water with me, along with a packet of vanilla GU. I ate the vanilla GU at around 4 miles and it kicked up my energy for the rest 3 miles.

After the run, Todd and I headed a few blocks over to the Potato Shack and had breakfast there. Yum! I forgot to take any photos, but I had an egg, cheese, tomato, and bacon breakfast sandwich, along with potato wedges. Todd doesn't eat breakfast food, so he had a mahi sandwich with french fries.

I found out from our friend Monika today that The Rock Church has a running ministry and the group runs six days a week all across San Diego! How fun is that? To combine running with fellowship with other Christians. We're definitely going to check it out!

Did you see the Snap! mini kit freebie that I created for the Little Dreamer Designs Apprentice Program? My friend Becky made a layout with it and it's just adorable!

Lastly... I found out something cool yesterday. My friend Jennifer Wilson at Simple Scrapper emailed me and told me that my paper block letter templates was mentioned in the current episode of Paperclipping Roundtable podcast. There's even a link to my Little Dreamer Designs store from there! I knew my friend Heather was chosen to be the "real life scrapper" on an episode, so it must have been her in the podcast! I downloaded it and listened to it. It was quite fun, and the mention happens at about 57 minutes into the show. If you've never listened to a Paperclipping Roundtable podcast before, you should check it out! :)

  1. People who doesn't eat breakfast foods are just insane. I'm just saying. LOL

Did you see how many comments and views your kit has compared to the others? Holy moley girl! Awesome. You're was my favorite. :)

  2. Is it unusual to still have aftershocks this many days after the main earthquake? I can't imagine waking up in the middle of the night with things shaking.

Good for you for running this morning. OK, that vanilla thing you ate while running...is that one of those energy gels? I got two of them for free the other day. I am too scared to eat them..I have this vision of turning into Hammy on Over the Hedge. And that would be embarrassing.

Isn't Heather way cool? I haven't talked to her about her experience..now that she's famous it's harder to get past her 'handlers' and find time to chat. (I am so kidding.. :D)

Talk to you later...hope you get a full night's sleep!

  3. I love reading about your runs - it's almost enough to inspire me to get back out myself ;)

Do you take a 'real' camera out with you when you run or is it a camera phone?

  4. Gilbert and I woke up to that earthquake too. There was another one that shook our building at work on Thursday. All this shakin' is giving me daily nightmares.

Yes, Saturday was the famous "train run" for SDTC and TnT. Love your photos - you really captured that hill's steepness very well.

  5. Tracey - no, it's not unusual to have aftershocks for a week. From what I've heard on the news, even an earthquake four YEARS from now can be classified as an aftershock of this one. And yes, the GU is a 100 calorie energy gel pack.

Jude - I do that my real camera with me when I run. It's a small Canon SD850 IS and it fits into my hydration belt with a pouch. My cell phone is very rudimentary and the camera pretty bad on there. I would love to integrate a phone and a camera, but I don't use my cell phone much, so I don't want to spend the money.

  6. awww, I feel famous having my layout on your blog!! :)

Okay, those massive hills do NOT look like fun to run on, but way to go for doing it! And even without the picture, that breakfast sandwich sounds awesome!!

  7. Thanks for answering :) I know exactly how you feel with the phone. I'd love a better gadget but it's so expensive and seems such a waste of money.
