Exhausted

I feel lately that I have so many things on my to-do list that it's paralyzing. I feel like I can't do any one of them well. I'm exhausted from trying to do them all, and losing patience with myself.

I'm not sleeping enough and it's not a good feeling. My typical day looks like this.

7:00am - get out of bed
7:15am - exercise, if I'm doing it in the morning that day. Or check emails & forums.
8:00am - shower
9:00am - get to work
5:30pm - leave work
6:00pm - exercise, if doing it in the evening
7:00pm - dinner + shower
8:30pm - work on digi-scrap CT assignments, my own designs, blog, pay bills, general internet waste of time, read, watch TV, etc.

Then suddenly it's past midnight and I'm exhausted, feeling like I got nothing done.

I definitely need more sleep. My friend Tracey tried sleeping more for three weeks, and it did wonders for her mentally and physically. It's gotta be a priority for me. Functioning on this level is not acceptable. I need to make some changes.

  1. I know exactly how you feel! For the past year I've been running at mediocre from lack of sleep. It's hard sometimes to find time to do all of the things that we want and need to get done. I hope we can both make sleep more of a priority!

  2. I'm right there with you girl. I've been running on empty for weeks now. I even took 2 days off and I was so busy it didn't even seem like time off.

I've been working 10 hour days and by the time I finish working I'm so tired I don't want to do anything at all.

    It's so depressing.

  3. I have a friend who is always talking about the importance of resting and sleep. So for the past few weeks I've really been trying to settle down at 9:00 pm. Sometimes I take a bath, but I am always reading after that time until I'm ready to fall asleep. It's really helped!

  4. Here's the doctor's prescription for my sleep issues.

Get nine hours EVERY night for two weeks.

After that, you can go back to 8 hours each night, but don't slip back into the 6-7 range.

I cannot tell you the difference it will make. My energy is back and my head is no longer foggy.

And with that, I'm off to bed! Praying for you!

  5. I understand. I don't work full time so I have more afternoon options than you, but of course that's when my daughter is home from school so there's the general supervision and back & forth to taekwondo, etc.

I'm so drowsy now at work, I'm just thinking about getting home, walking the dog and napping. But that isn't really the best either since I usually end up staying up later on days when I indulge in a nap. I swear if I put my head down on my desk right now I'd be asleep in a matter of minutes.

My DD is usually in bed right around 9:30. I wake up at 6am b/c I work at 7:30. To get a shot at 8 hours I'd have to be in bed by 10... but then DH & I have no time for each other. I don't work in the summer so you'd think I could really get into a good sleep pattern then... but I don't. I'm worse! I LOVE to stay up late and I can in the summer.

Maybe BETTER sleep is the key. That and a more simple life. But my life is pretty simple, I think. I KNOW I need to get away from the computer more though.

Good luck to us all!!! <3

  6. I also know exactly how you feel and what you mean!

I get out of bed at 5:30 each day... breakfast - working in an office (3 days with 6 hours and 2 days with 8 hours) - lunch - homework with the children - swim/soccer training with the children - in passing that making the household - dinner.... the normal life.... I get in my bed not before 11 pm... and often much later...
