I'm continually amazed at the power of the internet and social networking. It's very cool how no matter what hobbies and interests you have, there's a site/group on the internet for it. The other day I was making a list of all the sites that I frequent that sort of make up the big interests in my life, and I thought I would share them here.
Running - Daily Mile - a place similar to Facebook, where you can comment on friends' workouts. I keep track of all my running here, and any other workouts that I do.
Knitting/Crocheting - Ravelry - I keep track of yarns and projects here. It's a HUGE community and super-fun.
Reading - Goodreads - I put all my book To-Reads in here. I mark books as "read". I get book recommendations from friends. I read and write book reviews. It's awesome and I love it.
Dieting - Daily Plate - I keep track of my daily calorie intake here. I say "dieting" with quotes, because I don't believe in diets that deprive me of any foods. I eat everything in moderation when I'm tracking calories. It's worked for me before. I lost 6 lbs in about 3 months last year... slowly but surely.
Eating - Chowhound or Yelp - I love to read restaurant reviews here before I go!
Cooking - MyRecipes.com - where we link to all our favorite Cooking Light recipes online.
Digi-Scrapping - my non-store open forum/gallery of choice is My Scrapbook Art. You can find my gallery here.
Technology - Lifehacker - my favorite technology blog/site.
Sewing - I am just starting this hobby and would love it if anyone can suggest a site/forum/social network for me?

Love your list! I use a few of those too! Just started prowling around Daily Mile last night looking for longer routes that other locals have uploaded. Very cool! I also like the USA track and field website. They have a list of running routes that folks have uploaded.
ReplyDeleteAs far as sewing, I used to frequent Sewing Mamas alot (http://sewingmamas.com/b/). As the name suggests, it's mostly moms. BUT--they offer tutorials for sewing simple things (think bags, PJ pants, skirts). Lots of good ideas if you can see through the kids clothing. ;)
Another good site is Sew, Mama, Sew (http://www.sewmamasew.com/). Again, there is "kid stuff" on there, but they have lots of women's sewing ideas.
If I think of any more sewing sites, I'll send them along.

ReplyDeleteLOL - ok now I have a new fun tracker due to you again! I was just thinking yesterday that I needed to track what I ate, and lo and behold! :) It can't get much easier than that!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of DailyMile (as you know) but I stopped doing DailyPlate when they switched to a new look and, for me anyway, it became more difficult to find and track foods. Oh, and I love Goodreads too. Before I buy a book, I always check the reviews. What I love is that you can see from what else the reviewers read where "they are coming from." Makes a HUGE difference.

I use shelfari to note my book reads because they have a widget for my blog. I've noticed your book reviews actually post to your fb page.. hmm... which to choose?
ReplyDeletealso, I'm obsessed with yelp!!!! I joined to post a good review for my petsitter who is the most incredible person living in SD .. and they filtered it! F Yelp! I posted way more reviews after that ot gain credibility ... yet they stil hide her review. :o(
