A Gift That Mo Could Appreciate

I had known a few months ago that we were going to Peppermint and Tom's wedding in October. So of course I had some grandiose plans for the wedding gift. :) I wanted it to be handmade. So I started working on this back during the summer.

I had all the squares finished a couple of months ago. But it wasn't until two weeks before the wedding when I panicked and realized that I still had to sew all the squares together with yarn. (There are 42 squares:  6 each of 7 colors.)  So I spent about 10-12 hours that week sewing all the squares together using leftover yarn and a big blunt yarn needle. After the sewing was done, I had to perform the annoying and unglamorous task of "tucking in" all the yarn tails into the weave of the afghan. Finally I was finished the Sunday a week before the wedding! I sent the gift ahead via Fed Ex because it would be too bulky to fit into my luggage. I took a few photos of it before I sent it to Peppermint and Tom. Their wedding colors were brown and light blue.

And a close up.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of Peppermint and Tom opening the gift when it arrived last Monday after the wedding. However, being the cool friend that she is, Peppermint took some photos of her cat Mo enjoying the afghan with her phone camera and emailed them to me. It warms my heart that the little guy likes it for his nights of lounging around on the couch, watching TV with Peppermint. :)

Mo lounging above the afghan.

Mo under the afghan. I can't stand how cute this is!

Stay tuned for more Wisconsin stories and adventures...

  1. Haha, you forgot the part about how you left the photos on your camera and then let me surf right through them while looking at your wedding shots.

"Oh, what's this? OUR PRESENT?!" Haha.

I just picked up the living room and draped the afghan over the arm of the couch and Mo walked up there to eye it up. He can't resist a nice afghan. Regular blankets do nothing for him.

  3. Christine, what a beautiful gift! The kitty sleeping on the blanket reminds me of what my cats do. No matter what yarn project I am working on, they are right in the mix. I should probably make a blanket for them with all of my leftover yarn.
