New52 | Week 5: miXtape
I grew up an 80's child, so I love the 80's music. I had the whole "wall-of-bangs" going back then too! 3" high bangs that went straight up. So when I heard about a musical called "Mixtape" down at the Horton Grand Theatre downtown, put on by the Lamb's Player Theatre, I knew it would be one of my New 52's this year! Todd googled around and got tickets for half price at SDArtsTix.com. (Great tip for those who live in San Diego and want to see a live show. See if they offer tickets for half price at the website!)
So last Saturday night, 1/29, we went downtown to the Gaslamp Quarter and saw the musical. It was everything I thought it would be, and MORE! In some parts of the show, I was enjoying myself and laughing/smiling so hard that my face hurt. The singers/actors were really good. I loved all the songs they picked. Somehow the writers were able to weave the songs into a storyline. Sort of like "Mama Mia" with Abba's songs. I also cried at a couple of different points during the show.
The theatre itself was really nice. It was smaller and thus more intimate. There were no bad seats in the house and you could see the actors' expressions even from the back of the theatre. Todd got a brownie at their snack bar and shared one bite with me even! :)
The experience left me wanting more. I am so in awe of these talented performers who can perform live almost every night, and sing and dance too. I highly recommend "mixTape" as great entertainment for the whole family.

About This Project
New52 is a project started by Peppermint and I to encourage each other and others around us to try something new every week in 2011. The "new" each week doesn't have to be something big. It could be something as simple as ordering a new dish instead of old standbys at your favorite restaurant. It's simply opening your heart up to NEW possibilities.
Don't worry if you're late getting started on joining in. It's totally OK if you miss a week here or there. We encourage everyone to keep an open mind about trying something new. This is a life project, and a photography/blog and even scrap challenge if you wish. If you participate this week, please leave a link to your blog post in the link list below. You can also post images to our New 52 Flickr Group! We would love to see what you were inspired to do.
You had me at "80s". This looks like so much fun !
ReplyDeleteThe 80's was my music era growing up too! Culture Club, Duran Duran, early Madonna ... loved 'um all! This is a GREAT "new" this week Christine. For some weird reason, I now feel the need to wear some neon & lace and dig out my old Walkman personal stereo. LOL!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh...80's music..so much happiness and fun times! I'd LOVE to go to this show.
ReplyDeleteSo, who was your favorite band in the 80's??
Did you ever use 'vavoom' to make those bangs stick way up?? I know I did. Loved my Guess stonewashed jeans, too.
Oh my best New52 yet!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite band was probably The Thompson Twins. I seem to remember Vavoom, but I remember Aussie Scrunch spray the most! and neon socks with pumps.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the 80s and have so many favorites--but I am so not versed in the names of the bands! I only know what sounds familiar, lol! But ah, your title brings me back to the days of waiting by the radio for my favorite song to play and then taping songs with stupid DJs talking over the music, lol.
