Burger As Big As Your Head

Our first encounter with The Counter burgers was a few years ago in Santa Monica. I had read about The Counter in GQ Magazine's article "20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die". Their "Build Your Own Burger" is #15 on the list. When I saw that article, combined with the Oprah episode where Gayle ate her way around the country to experience the GQ Hamburger list, I knew we had to go. On a four hour drive to Santa Barbara for a mini-vacation, we stopped midway and ate lunch at The Counter in Santa Monica. That experience was very good. Loved the Build Your Own Burger and their french fries and onion rings. Since then, we've gone back a couple more times on different trips to LA.

Lo and behold, this week The Counter opened a restaurant in Del Mar. So Roby texted Todd yesterday and asked if we wanted to go for lunch today. Yes please! Funny thing was, Todd went with his coworkers on Monday, because Todd's boss really wanted to go. So, just like our first time at Phil's BBQ with Roby and Dejah, Todd had to ruin it for the rest of us by going there first with his work friends a few days before, LOL.

Before going to The Counter today, I had to run a couple of miles on the treadmill first. It probably was a drop in the bucket to try to offset the calories, but hey, I tried a little.

We shared some onion rings, french fries, and fried pickles. All were yummy.

We each ordered our Build Your Own Burger differently. I had mine with Pepperjack cheese, black olives, green chiles, pickles, and spicy pepperocinis. So yummy!

Dejah had avocado, grilled onion, sprouts, and cucumbers on hers. It was so tall that she couldn't hardly bite into it!

I took a couple of photos of Roby's burger, but none of the photos turned out for some reason. And Todd's burger wasn't very pretty, he didn't get cheese. We ate and ate and were delighted with how everything tasted.

Everyone looked happy and full afterwards.

I had to pull my hair back to keep my hair from getting into my burger. Oh the sacrifices I make for good food. :p

  4. I agree with Monika, if you aren't going to eat it with cheese they you are not photo worthy. LOL

  5. Jennifer: Yes, it was a "Todd Shot" fail!

LOL Christi - Monika hates cheese more than Todd does even. She was being facetious.
