Anthology | Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Todd loves big band music. We were so excited when we found out that Big Bad Voodoo Daddy would be playing at Anthology. Todd purchased the tickets a while ago, and Friday night 4/29 was the concert. Todd's dad has seen BBVD in concert and had high praises for the show, so we were very much looking forward to hear them.

We took the day off on Friday because our weekend was going to be super-full. There was going to be a lot of driving and activities, and I knew that if we didn't take some time off, we would be so tired. We watched "The Social Network" during the day at home. Then around 6:30pm we headed downtown to Anthology.

This time we got the better seats with a view of the stage. Along with better seats, each person has to purchase a minimum of $15 in food/drinks, so we had dinner there. Todd had sea bass while I had fried calamari and arugula salad. The food at Anthology is actually pretty good!

I just love this venue. It's small and intimate and you can eat at the same time!

The band played for about 1.5 hours. We recognized lots of songs, and they played some other standard big band music that we also knew. They really performed with lots of energy and the crowd interaction was fun. One cool thing was that the piano keys faced the audience so we could see the piano player's hands moving around. BBVD were sharp dressers!

We didn't get dessert at Anthology, because we knew that two blocks away was Extraordinary Desserts!

As with last time, we got our chocolate vanilla cream cake to go, because the wait was super-long for a table there. The desserts there are pricey, but worth every penny when you bite into it. Seriously!

Todd and I had such a fun date. We're thinking of getting tickets to Fourplay in June at Anthology, our favorite music venue in San Diego.  :)
