Todd and I both took the day off on Friday. We had a day of leisure at home (more naps!). Around 4:30pm, we headed downtown for happy hour at Donovan's and then Petco Park for the Padres vs Giants game. We love to make it to at least one Padres game every summer, because what's more "summer" than baseball? :)
We parked at the Hilton parking garage. We can see that they're getting set up for the Comic Con convention this week already. So exciting! From the Hilton garage, we walked on the skybridge across Harbor Drive to Petco Park.
We walked by Petco Park but didn't go in yet, because it was right before 6pm and we wanted to get into Donovan's for happy hour and good eats before the 7:05pm game start!
The walk turned out longer than we thought and we made it to Donovan's right before 6pm! Good thing was, their special-priced appetizers extend to 7pm on game nights. Score! We sat down in the bar area and were so excited. We both LOVE Donovan's for the yummy food and GREAT service.
I ordered a mandarin martini. Pretty potent. Todd helped me finish it.
Todd ordered a diet Coke himself and they brought him refills four times without him asking!
They make one of the yummiest crusty breads out there.
We ended up ordering the Teriyaki Prime Filet Skewer and a Prime Filet Burrito and shared both.
I didn't eat the French fries because I'm not eating potatoes in July. But the rest was so delicious!
We made it into the ballpark right as the game was starting. Had to pick up our tickets at Will Call first. Them were nice seats!
Tim Lincecum was pitching for the SF Giants, so we didn't hold out much hope for the Padres. The Padres fell behind early and never caught up. They ended up losing 6-1. I always feel like rooting for both teams when the Giants and Padres play each other. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area loving the Giants and was a die-hard baseball fan. But now I live in San Diego so I love the Padres as well.
Night time in Petco Park.
We stayed until the end of the game, because we found out that Friday nights they have fireworks after the game! How cool is that? Fireworks with music at the stadium.
Staying for the fireworks was totally worth it! We didn't get home until around 11:30pm, but what a fun summer night out in America's Finest City, and what a fun day off of work!
I am so glad you had such a nice weekend..Great pictures too..
ReplyDeleteStill wanting to be you when I grow up.

What a great way to spend the evening. The two of you sure make the best use of the city you live in.
