I had some crafty adventures this week that I thought I’d share.
Heat Embossing | This was the first time I’d ever done heat embossing. I used Versamark Ink on black cardstock. I stamped the cute camera from the Lovestruck stamps from the Amy Tangerine Collection by American Crafts. Then I spread some white embossing powder I got from Michaels (I think it’s their store brand… Recollection). Then I used my Martha Stewart heat gun on it. I was disappointed with the results. I’m not sure what went wrong because it was my first time. It could be that the Michaels embossing powder is not good, or it could be user error with the heat gun. The embossing powder didn’t melt or get raised, so when you touch it the powder comes off and the design gets ruined. :( I’ll probably try the American Crafts Zing embossing powder next time.
Silhouette Print & Cut | I haven’t done the “print & cut” function on my Silhouette digital cutting machine since they released the new Silhouette Studio software, so I thought I would try it out. I selected several print & cut shapes that I already had (list below at the end of the post if you want to check them out). I pulled them up into Silhouette Studio. Then I printed them out with the registration marks.
Then I fed the printed sheet with the registration marks into my Silhouette digital cutter. It scans for the registration marks so it knows where to cut.
In a minute of so, I magically have tags all cut out for me!
All these awesome tags printed and cut out for me from my Silhouette. I can’t wait to use them in my Project Life pages, scrapbook pages, or just anything crafty. :)
Baby Card | I needed to make a long-overdue card for a good friend of mine, so I decided to use my Silhouette to help me out. I picked out the baby onesie shape from this set of baby shapes that I had previously purchased from Silhouette. Then I used the Silhouette to cut them out on white Bazzill cardstock. I used some aqua Divine Twine to make a cute clothesline, then stapled the twine onto the cardstock using my Tiny Attacher. Then I glued the onesie cutouts onto the twine/paper using glue dots. The banner with the baby’s name was a print & cut from the Silhouette that I designed. I used two brown brads from Basic Grey to complete the look.
That’s all for this week’s crafty adventures! Here are the items used for these projects.

Very neat tags! I'm looking into getting a Silhouette machine but was curious to know if you can use it to cut out elements from a digital scrapbooking kit, have you ever tried that? Your tags look like they printed out so clean, what type of printer do you have? I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie! I've done print & cut of digital scrapbooking kits before, using the old RoboMaster software. I have not done it yet with the new Silhouette Studio software, but it's on my list of things to try next! I plan on doing a hybrid layout with elements printed out from digital scrapbooking kits.
ReplyDeleteOh and I have a Canon Pixma MP620 printer. I print anything that's not copy-paper weight through the rear tray feed. It prints out beautifully. This printer is discontinued but if I were to get a current one I would get this one: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-MG5220-Wireless-Inkjet-4502B017/dp/B003VQR1RA
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation on the printer! I look forward to seeing your results printing out digital kit elements with the Silhouette; I love reading about all your adventures!
ReplyDeleteHi Christine, please pardon for my lack of comments lately. Our whole household has been off and on sick so I'm falling behind on my blog comments. I just wanted to say that I've been keeping up with all your lists and think that is a great idea. It would be neat to look back at when you are older. Congrats to Todd for finishing his triathlon. I've been eyeing out that Amy camera stamp. It is so cute and hope that my LSS will bring it in since I already placed my order for some things at 2peas. AND I've been really wanting a silhouette. However, I already own a cricut (the older model) and the poor thing hardly gets used. So I really can't justify getting another cutting machine.
ReplyDeleteOh, I also own a Cannon printer (Pixma MG6120) and I love it. I will never go back to HP ever again.
ReplyDeleteLove these projects! About the embossing - it may have just needed a bit mire time under heat. I always wait to see it bubble then it will smooth right out. Biut I haven't tried the Michael's brand, so who knows!
