While our backyard jacuzzi is NOT new, we hadn’t used it since fall of 2005. It was actually one of the reasons we loved this house when we first saw it back in August 2001. We were living in our other house up the street. On the way home from church on a Sunday in August, we saw an “Open House” sign and went in for a peek. We were totally smitten with this house, especially the backyard. It was the perfect house for us. Nobody has a big backyard in San Diego, but this one was really nice. The previous owners spent a ton of money totally redoing it. So we went home and did some financial calculations to see if it was a possibility, then made an offer the next day. The rest was history, as they say! We sold our house up the street and moved into this house in early October 2001. So in a few weeks it will be our 10th anniversary of living in this house. :)
A couple of months ago, we decided that we wanted to get the jacuzzi working again. We thought maybe it would take a few hundred dollars. We knew we needed to buy a new cover for it, because the old one was totally dilapidated and warped and wouldn’t keep the water insulated and warm anymore. Well, when the service guy brought the new cover to our house (special ordered), we knew about that $350 expense. What we didn’t know was that the heating motor was shot. And that we needed to have some electrical work done and put in a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI). When Andy the Jacuzzi Guy came back in a couple of weeks to do those things, we realized that one other thing was broken. The main circuit (control) board. That was an expensive piece to replace. It took 3x the amount of money we thought it would take to get this jacuzzi working again. Since the motors and circuits are all NEW, I’m counting this as a New 52! :p
Here are the stairs up to the little deck where the jacuzzi is inside the deck.
The view with the jacuzzi cover on, from the other side.
Another view of the backyard. The jacuzzi is behind the palms on the right side.
So last night we used our “new” jacuzzi for the first time since 2005 and we loved it. It was divine. I think this may become an almost-nightly ritual. Since we had to spend so much money fixing it to get it working again, we’re planning to take full advantage of it. Party anyone? Too bad it’s not also a time machine!
PS – I’m not including the Simply Linked tool anymore, because nobody has linked anything the last two weeks. If you would like to share your New 52 this week, just link up in the comment section. :)

About This Project
New52 is a project started by Peppermint and I to encourage each other and others around us to try something new every week in 2011. The "new" each week doesn't have to be something big. It could be something as simple as ordering a new dish instead of old standbys at your favorite restaurant. It's simply opening your heart up to NEW possibilities.
Don't worry if you're late getting started on joining in. It's totally OK if you miss a week here or there. We encourage everyone to keep an open mind about trying something new. This is a life project, and a photography/blog and even scrap challenge if you wish. If you participate this week, please leave a link to your blog post in the link list below.
Your garden looks AMAZING!!!! ~sigh~ if we only the climate to make more of "out-door living".
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I having linked up my NEWS for the past couple of weeks ... the truth is I haven't even blogged about my NEWS yet! No excuses, just real life.
As for the party invite(!) what time should I arrive? I'll bring a bottle (of course), red or white? Hahahahaha!!! Oh and the film, I know I shouldn't have enjoyed it ... but I really did!!! Lame I know!!!
Your backyard looks great! Um, so if you mentioned the hot tub time machine movie, does that mean you've watched it? I have. it was horrible
ReplyDeleteWow! It looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've pretty much given up on New52 but I love following along with yours. I think a new thing each week was too much for me. LOL I think I might try something different next year. One new thing each month something like 12 in twenty twelve or something. LOL
