Crafting | Carving Stamps

I had seen some tutorials on the internet about how to carve your own stamps.  And because I needed yet another hobby to occupy my time with, I went over to Michaels and got some supplies to carve my own stamps.

This was the result of my first attempt at carving a stamp.

I carved a stamp that looks like gridded washi tape!

Here are some process photos.  They are not good quality due to taking them at night in my craft studio.  But you get the gist.

First I drew my design with a mechanical pencil onto vellum paper and cut it out.  Most tutorials will say use tracing paper, but I didn’t have any, so I just used vellum paper.

Then I pressed the side with the pencil drawing against the Speedy-Curve block and I rubbed the top (the non-penciled side) down onto the block with a bone folder.  If you use rub-ons for scrapbooking/cardmaking, then this is a similar procedure, except I’m rubbing my own pencil drawing onto the Speedy-Curve block.

Then I carved the penciled lines with my Speedball Lino carver, using blade #1, which generates the thinnest carving lines.

Then I just carved more off the sides of the stamps with a larger blade, since the intricate work was done already.

I cleaned the little carved-off pieces off the stamp and gave it a whirl with ink.  It works!  And it looks pretty cool to me!  I’m excited to carve more stamps now!
