Yesterday marked the crowning achievement of Todd’s triathlon career so far. He completed the California Ironman 70.3.
And what does the 70.3 stand for? That’s 70.3 miles, folks! He started with a 1.2 mile ocean swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride, finishing off with a 13.1 mile run. He beat his estimated time of 6:30 by about 7 minutes, finishing at 6 hours and 23 minutes. (His heat started about 25 minutes after the race started, thus the difference compared to the race clock above.) I could not be more proud of him! This is something I would never dream of doing. He has been training so hard, going to masters swim class at 5:30am. Running long runs on the weekend. Biking quite a lot as well. The training paid off, even though the run at the end was quite long and painful.
I arrived to Oceanside during the run and stationed myself high up over the pier. It was so crowded down by the finish chute that I knew I would get better photos of Todd finishing from the high up distance. Glad I had my zoom lens with me!
The finish was right on the beach, next to the Oceanside Pier.

Another one of Todd finishing the race.
Todd found his masters swim class buddy Cat afterwards.

A last glance at the finish site.
