Catching Up on Life

I try to keep up to date on my blog, but invariably, I have to do a catch-up post on life. It’s just the nature of being busy I suppose. It’s good if I’m living life so that I have stuff to blog about, even if it’s all in one big catch-up post! :)

Good Eats

On Monday 1/14 we tried out the Carnitas Snack Shack, after seeing many good reviews of it. It was a COLD night and they only have outside patio seating. We huddled under the heat lamps and ate with glee. This Triple Threat Pork Sandwich has pork loin schnitzel + pulled pork + bacon!

These carnitas tacos were delicious.

For lunch on Sunday 1/20, we headed to Karl Strauss because they have a nice bar area where we could watch the NFC Championship game.
20130120-IMG_2417_600

Todd had hot pastrami sandwich.
20130120-IMG_2409_600

I had fish & chips.
20130120-IMG_2410_600

Eating and watching the game was a lot of fun. Especially since this place was pretty close to our house.

On Friday night 1/25, we tried out the Flippin Pizza near our house. Who could resist good pizza close to home? Not us.

On 1/31, our January box from Goodies.co came.

Goodies.co is a monthly subscription service where they send you a box of snacks for $7, including shipping. It was my Pick of the Week on the last Digi Show that I was on.

Photos and the text above the photos are all linked to each recipe. :)

Life With Noodle

Noodle is ridiculously snuggly during the winter. Yes, I know there’s hardly a winter in San Diego, but he is markedly more snuggly when it’s cooler.

On the couch with me on 1/16.
20130116-IMG_9414_600

Very relaxed on his perch on 1/19.
20130119-IMG_9417_600

Watching the Ohio State basketball game with Todd on 1/26.
20130126-IMG_0131_600

On my desk in the office, keeping me company on 1/28.
20130128-IMG_0138_600

More snuggling with Todd on 1/29.

Hanging Out

We went to Club M at the Grand Del Mar on Thursday night 1/24. They had a live salsa band playing and it was really fantastic.
20130124-IMG_9506_600

We ate with Roby, even though we had a small meal at home beforehand. Couldn’t resist the bacon fries.
20130124-IMG_9501_600

Or the chocolate cake. Although it didn’t taste as good as it looked and we had to leave some behind. Sad!
20130124-IMG_9503_600

Hanging out with Roby is always fun! (Dejah was at a conference.)
20130124-IMG_9507_600

There was a lot of salsa dancing going on. I wish we knew how! Perhaps some lessons are in order…

My dad came to visit last weekend. I helped him set up Skype on his new laptop so he could video chat. I also helped him organize his photos in Picasa. We both got a big kick out of the face recognition feature in Picasa. So amazing! We watched The Avengers DVD with him because he had never seen it. Love that movie!

Dad brought a bunch of old photo albums from my childhood, so that I could scan them all and put them into better acid-free albums.

If you have any suggestions on where I could find reasonably priced acid-free albums that can fit many photos, please let me know in the comments.

We had dinner at home on Saturday night.

My dad looking through my Project Life albums. I loved that he loved looking through it. It put a big smile on my face!

Out and About

On Thursday night 1/31, we went to the Pentatonix concert at the House of Blues downtown. Todd’s parents gave us tickets as a Christmas gift. We had dinner at El Zarape beforehand. We hadn’t been there in AGES!
20130131-IMG_2432_600

I had shrimp and calamari tacos and they were great.
20130131-IMG_2438_600

Our tickets said the show was at 7:00pm. We got to the House of Blues around 7:20pm and the show hadn’t started yet. Upon checking the website, it said doors open at 7:00pm, and show at 8:00pm. This wasn’t the first time we fell for the “doors open” trick to get you in earlier so you would buy drinks. Ugh! From now on we’re checking the REAL start time before leaving the house! AND the tickets didn’t say there was an opening act. So at 8pm, the opening act, Speak, started playing.
20130131-IMG_2441_600
They were actually pretty good. My favorite part was when they covered “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees. It’s so funny because earlier I had just said to Todd, “Boy, their voices are very high and girly”!

At 9pm, Pentatonix came on the stage. Todd and I didn’t really watch “The Sing-Off”, where they won the 3rd season, so we didn’t know what to expect.
20130131-IMG_2458_600

What they are able to do with just their voices was amazing!
20130131-IMG_2467_600

Old people out on a week night! :p
20130131-IMG_2453_600
We had fun despite the snafu with the start time. The crowd was all teenagers and young people in their 20’s though. There was some pushing and shoving, and jockeying for position, since we had general admission tickets.

Running

I’m running less this year. It’s a conscious choice so I can incorporate more strength training and different exercises into my routine. But we did get out yesterday to run by the coast, and it was a glorious sunny and 75 degrees out there.

We are so lucky to live in San Diego and to be able to enjoy nice weather and the beach in February!

  2. You always have such yummy looking food photos, it makes me want lunch!! [and it's 9 AM...] Maybe you could try putting some of the best of the old photos in project life albums...then going back & adding journaling when you have time/want to.
